This is a quote from the Source Book of Western Design Conference 2002/2003 in Cody Wyoming where Anette Sarkissian was choosen to be one of the 25 Western Clothing Designers for a Fashion Show. "A native of England and graduate of a design school in London, Sarkissian has been working in her craft for twenty years. Of Russian and Armenian heritage, she grew up in a family of musicians and artists and learned sewing from her mother and sister. She launched her design business in London with a line of clothes made from Italian silks and fine wool. After mowing to southern California fifteen years ago, "I became fascinated by the lavish embroidery and rhinestones and fringes incorporated into western wear, especially of the old times." She cites the clothes worn by Dale Evans and Roy Rogers and designs by Nudie as important sources of inspiration. The winnter of many awards and ribbons in art and craft shows, today Sarkissian loves working with suede, leather and high-quality fabrics. "My specialty lies in using semi-precious stones, as well as feathers and rhinestones. I am constantly searching for new concepts to materialize in my designs." Her best-selling design, for instance, a reversable waistwrap with fringe, was based on the tradition chap. Sarkissian's work can be seen at her workshop in Granada Hills, California and at several Western Festivals."
